Blog contributor terms & content policy

The short version: what you write stays yours, we get permission to publish it, everything is read before it goes live, and anything that is wrong gets corrected rather than quietly deleted.

Who can post

You need a Filtizy account to write a post or leave a comment. Anyone signed in can submit a post through the composer; reading the blog needs no account at all.

Everything you submit is attributed to your account name, publicly and permanently. Comments carry the same byline. If you would rather not be named, do not post.

Review before publication

A submitted post is not published straight away. It is saved as a draft and read by an editor first, and it is not visible at any address until they publish it. We are not obliged to publish anything, we may edit for length, clarity, formatting or house style before we do, and we may decline without giving a reason.

Comments are different: they appear immediately, and are moderated afterwards. That is a deliberate trade - a conversation that only appears the next day is not a conversation - and it is why the removal rules below matter more for comments than for posts.

What you keep, and what you give us

You keep the copyright in everything you write. We do not take ownership of your post or your comments.

By submitting, you grant Filtizy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, store, reproduce, adapt for formatting, and distribute your contribution on this site and in the material that promotes it - including search-engine listings, social previews and the machine-readable feeds we publish. The licence lasts as long as the contribution is on the site, and it survives your account being closed only for contributions we have already published.

You confirm that the work is yours, that you have the right to grant that licence, and that publishing it does not break anyone else's copyright, contract or confidence. If you quote someone, quote them briefly and say who they are. If you use an image, you must have the right to use it - a link to a picture you found is not permission to publish it.

What we will not publish

These get declined, or removed after the fact:

• Health, medical or dietary advice. Explain what a number on a label means and what published guidance says about it. Never tell a reader what a food will do to their body, and never suggest anything treats, prevents or cures a condition. This is the same line the scoring method holds to, and it is not negotiable.
• Anything that contradicts the published method. If you think the score is wrong, say so and say why - that is a welcome post. Do not restate its thresholds inaccurately.
• Undisclosed commercial content. No paid placements, no affiliate links of your own, no writing about a brand you work for without saying so in the post.
• Copied work. Including text generated wholesale from someone else's article.
• Personal data about other people, harassment, threats, slurs, or content aimed at a private individual.
• Spam - keyword-stuffed filler, link farming, or the same submission repeatedly.

Corrections

A factual error in a published post gets corrected, not deleted, and the post says that it was corrected. If you spot one - in your own work or anyone else's - tell us through the contact form or leave a comment on the post saying what is wrong. Corrections are the most useful thing anyone sends us.

Removal, and what "delete" means

You can delete your own comment at any time. Doing so removes its text from our database; what stays is a marker in the thread, and only while a reply hangs off it, so the conversation underneath still makes sense. An editor can hide a comment that breaks the rules above, which has the same effect on its text.

To withdraw a published post, write to hello@filtizy.com from the address on your account. We will unpublish it. Be aware that we cannot pull it back out of search-engine caches, archives or anywhere it has already been quoted.

Limits we enforce

So the blog stays readable rather than automated: five post submissions per account per hour, ten comments per account per hour, and replies go one level deep. These are generous for a person and pointless for a script. Hitting them is not a punishment - wait, and carry on.

We may suspend an account that works around these limits, submits repeatedly after being declined, or is used to harass anyone.

No liability for contributed content

Posts and comments are the opinions of the people who wrote them. Publishing something is not an endorsement of it. Filtizy gives no warranty about contributed content and accepts no liability for a decision anyone makes after reading it - the same position the site terms take about the scores themselves.

You agree to cover us for any claim that arises because a contribution of yours was not actually yours to publish.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top says when they last did. A change applies to what you submit after it, never retroactively to what is already published.
